Softening Technology
Hard water is converted into soft water by exchanging hard salts of calcium and magnesium with sodium using an ion-exchange process. This is done with the help of resin beads charged with sodium salts, which attract hard salts and convert them into soft salts.
Water softening is the removal of calcium, magnesium, and certain other metal cations in hard water. The resulting soft water is more compatible with soap and extends the lifetime of plumbing. Water softening is usually achieved using lime softening or ion-exchange resins.
